Pardon my French

Who would have thought?

I’ve been playing organized basketball for the last 19 years…  The last 5 years were more, let’s say, recreational than competitive.

But still, the last league I’ve played in back home in Quebec was more than descent: 12 teams with 10 or more players (showing up every game), 22 regular season games and lots of playoff fun.  So I was kind of sad to leave this great basketball situation and take my talent up North to Yellowknife for professional reasons, where honestly I never thought I could find something like the YBA!

At first, it was exactly like I had envisioned because the 2010-2011 YBA season had just ended.  We (me and Mat) couldn’t find any open gym to get our weekly basketball fix, plus, we didn’t know anyone in the city.

But then, after a couple of weeks we started to hang out at some open gyms… A bunch of sleepover and pyjama parties later the 2011-2012 JSL team was born.  But that’s not the point of this article.

All I want is to pay homage to those who made that possible.  And by THAT, I mean the league, the 2-3 games a week and the trashtalk board, where someone called me Simone just after telling me I was immature.  Gotta love it!!! In a small city where the winters are long and harsh and where most people are a long way from home, the YBA is a very bright spot as far as I’m concerned…  So cheers to everyone who contributed in making this league what it is today.  Let’s keep up the good work (good luck JBird!!!)…

As for the Super Friends nickname… We will embrace it as much as we can, because so far, it seems to work just fine!!!
