What up YKBA this is Joe Mama back at ya for another POTM! What is POTM you may ask- well let me explain. You see since the immeasurable success of my first two articles the pressure has been on to keep the pen flowing and to keep my fans happy. Many wondered if I could keep banging out literary masterpieces week after week, or if the pressure would be too much and I would fold like Surly Bob’s in the finals. Well unfortunately the latter has occurred for since then I have produced nothing. With the Commish breathing down my neck I began to scramble- I even initiated a refing scandal on trash talk to take some attention away from my incompetence, however that only bought me a limited amount of time. Well the Christmas holidays was a time of introspection for Joe Mama and I came to the ultimate realization that I am far too lazy, I watch too much TV, and play way to much Xbox to write a weekly column. And with a new Survivor coming up, NFL playoffs and my ongoing seasons of Madden, NHl, and NBA 08- the problem is only going to get worse. In fact with each passing day I am slowly evolving (or maybe devolving) into Brad Pitt’s character “Lloyd” from the movie True Romance (minus the getting high off cleaning products- Joe Mama likes to keep it straight). So alas I have changed the format to POTM- Player of the Month, And your POTM for the month of December is…………..
Mr. Tyler Wells.
So much has been said already of the pressure that is on the Jr. Hot Shots this year, and no one is feeling that pressure more then Tyler, their leader and co-captain. Coach Healy has been quoted recently in the Yellowknifer calling this Hot Shot squad as “one of the best they have had in a while”, and we all know that getting a compliment from Healy is about as likely as getting a pass from Colin Mckay. Regardless the Jr’s have handled the pressure well so far, largely due to Tyler’s overall play and leadership. At press time the Hot Shots are in first place, and Mr. Wells leading his team in scoring with almost 20 a game. In his final year with the team he has peaked at the right time and has had some outstanding performances already this year- the highlight being the championship game in the Grande Prairie tourney where he hit 11 3-pointers in the game as the Hot Shots took the gold. He has changed a lot since entering the league 4 years ago. Back then he was short, skinny, nerdy and immature- okay well not much has changed except that now he is a great basketball player- he truly epitomizes the old adage that size does not matter, feel free to interpret that how ever you like. He can take it to the hoop strong, dish to his teammates or drop a three in your face, making him very hard to defend.
Although teammates are more than pleased with his game on the court, some of them seem concerned with his game off the court. When asked to comment on Tyler’s talent with the ladies, teammate Quincy said, “dude I don’t think he has ever kissed a girl”, he later added, “if he doesn’t improve his skills he is gonna end up taking his Mom to the prom this year”. Rumour has it on their recent trip to Hawaii when the rest of the team hit the beach to check out the ladies Tyler opted to go swimming with turtles. It’s obvious that Tyler has sacrificed romance in lieu of hoops, and with AWG’s coming up maybe that’s not such a bad thing. If he keeps up the hard work the Hot Shots will have a good shot at the gold Ulu this year and a YBA championship (if they can figure out how to beat BK!).
Well that’s it for me until next month, till then you can find me on my couch. |
