This week’s champ comes to the Yellowknife
Basketball Association having last played competitively in Whitehorse’s
men’s league.
While the YKBA is full of whiners, fights –
of the fist variety – are said to occur regularly on the
Whitehorse courts. The committee asks anyone thinking about jumping
ship to the warmer climes and beautiful scenery of Yukon’s
barely-above-sixty capital to keep this bit of info in mind.
Now onto this week’s words: Last week the
big man -- who has shown a nice touch around the basket and rebounds
with abandon while somehow managing to keep his mouth shut no
matter how terrible his teammates’ shot selection –
potted a solid 22 against the Juniors. He then followed that performance
up by dropping 20 big ones in a loss to the Claw.
These performances prompted at least one TRASHTalk
post touting Sorochan as the best big man in the league. After
some discussion the board decided on awarding, at the very least,
most improved player honours.
The committee is not here to decide titles
such as best big man, but let’s just say any talk of handing
the man the most-improved player plaque is definitely misguided.
This guy’s had a solid game from Day One,
but hasn’t been getting the ball enough. Though if last
week is any indication, it looks like feeding the post is the
Ringers’ new favourite play; and for good reason.
